Tyden relaxed a little and looked at Ely, she seemed to be asleep. He didn't want to touch the human cloth, if Seth knew the human then he must be good.

Tyden had blood-stained teeth and the cut across his chest still bled freely. Tyden tried to ignore and he lied down next Ely but he was having trouble staying awake himself. The loss of blood was starting to take its toll.

Soon Tyden was unconscious and his blood stained his fur and the bandages on Ely who he was lying next too.

Walking up to the den, Dan sees that the male fox has passed out. He carefully takes out his thick animal handling gloves, and gives the fox some antibiotics with some a small dose of tranquilliser to help him sleep.

Making sure the fox is out Dan begins treating the gash on its chest. After cleaning the wound Dan sews it shut with the same thread that in time will biodegrade leaving the wound. When his task is done he does a complete check to see if there are any other cuts. Dan sees all the scars from many fights. Looking at Seth who was now worried, Dan says, “he’s been through a lot. Hasn’t he?”

Dan gives Tyden another needle, “he will be fine in the morning. We got to the infection in time.” He puts the fox down by the den and unwraps the she-fox, laying them both side by side.

“Seth, I want you to stay here and watch them tonight if you need me I will be over there.” Dan points to the tent just outside the trees. Seth barks in agreement, he will stay up all night if need be.

Tyden woke up with the sun nearly almost completely down. He was outside of the den with Ely next to him. Tyden looked around and couldn't see Seth with his vision blurred still and the darkness covered the forest though he knew Seth was around because he could smell his scent. However Tyden noticed a strange light coming from near the trees. Tyden focused and couldn't make it out for a while until he finally noticed that there was a human tent there. With a weak voice Tyden called for Seth, "Seth? Is that your human friend over there?"

With ears suddenly perked up, “yes, Tyden. But don’t worry its because of him that you and Ely are still alive.”
“Chirp.” The insect responds.
“He told me if you need anything happens to come get him. But I think you need your sleep still. I will be on the guard, so don’t worry.”

Seth was happy now that Tyden was showing improvement. The night came and all through it Seth stayed awake, Chirp made sure of it.

All night Seth marched around the two foxes, protecting them no animal or hunter would dare come near this swift fox. Soon Seth began to tire, his eyes beginning to close, and then he would hear a large “CHIRP!” from the grasshopper. The night slowly went on as if it never wanted to let the sun rise again. Dawn finally here Seth waited for the others to wake.

Ely woke up when the sun was starting to rise. She saw that Tyden was sleeping next to her; she tried to stand up but pain shot up her leg and she couldn't use it. There was also sharp pain in her lung but she tried to ignore that since she couldn't do anything about it.

Ely looked at Tyden and noticed that there still was a lot of dry blood around his mouth. He was not sleeping how a normal fox would, he was stretched out where she almost thought that he was dead though she noticed that his chest was still rising and falling meaning that he was breathing. She lied back down next to Tyden and waited for him to wake up but she fell back asleep.

Tyden woke up about an hour later with the taste of the human's blood still in his mouth. His chest throbbed in pain and he saw that there were human bandages on him.

Tyden also saw that the bandages were removed from Ely. Tyden got up and walked towards the stream slowly where he took a drink. He passed the human's tent without much care and went back to Ely who has woken again. Tyden went over and licked her cheeck, "You okay?". A flood of emotions hit Tyden as he felt as if it was his fault that she was injured.

"I'm fine." Ely and Tyden both looked at Seth who lazily walked around. He must have been up all night watching over them; he must be exhausted. Tyden and Ely both lied back down. "You can sleep now Seth, we'll be fine." Tyden waited there for the human to wake up, he wasn't sure what to think about him but he waited for the human to come out.

Walking with his eyes half open Seth looked at Tyden, “your ok?” and with that he lay down and was out within half a second.

It was 7 o’clock when Dan got up he was confident that the 2 foxes would be fine. So he went about his daily routine, pot of coffee on the gas stove. Along with his coffee he had toast with butter. He felt like a king with the generator that he had been given. Only turning it on when the potable freezer needed it. He didn’t need it for much more. With his coffee drank and the sun now up, he decides to take a look at the 2 foxes.

Opening the tent he sees Tyden sitting there, as he walks out he begins talking to the fox. “I see that you are alright.” He looks toward the den. “I’m sure that Seth didn’t sleep at all last night.” Dan slowly takes out his stool and sits on it. “You know you almost killed that hunter eh? Though I don’t think you care too much about it. I got to give you some credit not many animals would go at a hunter like that. And don’t worry he won’t be back cause if he is you’ll still be here.”

Dan laughed at the last few words. He knew that man was now too scared to come back especially after what he said to him. He talked for a bit more about the weather and about what he was trying to do in this area. All the time he was soft spoken not making any sudden moves. Dan pulls out some jerky and bites off some, and tossed it to Tyden. He then bites off another piece and chews on it as he looks out to the forest.

Tyden didn't know what the human was talking about though he was sure it either had to do with the how Tyden took offence to him when he was caring for Ely or about the other human.

The human tossed him something so Tyden went to it and sniffed it. It smelt of meat but Tyden looked back at the human. The human seemed to be eating it as well so it must not be posison. Tyden ate it.

Ely came up to the human without knowing what he was but he seemed to have something to eat. She stood on her hind feet and put her paws on the human wanting some food. Her tail wagged back and forth fore she was happy to be getting such an easy meal.

“Well aren’t you something.” Dan breaks off a piece and puts it to her mouth. Dan gets up and says to the two foxes, “well I have only 3 days left and I got to take a look at all this land to see if there will be any trouble in making it a reserve” As he speaks he point out at all the land.

Standing up Dan says “if you two are really hungry I got something for you.” He walks back into the tent. On his return he has two bowls with tuna in them. “Well I hope you like it.” now sitting the bowls down, “this was one of Seth’s favourites” On sitting them down he walks back into and returns with a third bowl. “ I have to go look at some of the land so you three be good.” Dan goes a third time into the tent and puts away everything making sure that if any animal got into the tent it wouldn’t be any trouble. With the tent zipped up, hiking boots on and a small pack Dan starts to walk off. “I’ll see you foxes later.” Dan laughed at himself after he said it.

Tyden sniffed the tuna, he didn't like to eat anything offered to him especially by a human. Before ever thinking about taking a bite, Tyden turned to Seth. Ely also didn't eat it but looked at Tyden though Tyden spoke to Seth, "Is it poisoned? I do not eat food that the human has not eaten him/her self."

Tyden watched the human leave, he didn't mind that much but he still didn't think kindly of humans on his territory. Though tyden did his best to ignore.

“Yawn” Seth looked at Tyden and shook his head. “Well if you don’t want it…” Seth licked his chops. “Just kidding though it is one of my favourites.” Seth went to one of the bowls and took a bite. With it in his mouth and chewing on it, “hmm chop, chop. It taste pretty good to me.” another bite and he looks to Tyden, “its fish but just the meat. I always got this when I was at the sanctuary.” His mouth in the bowl licking it clean he finishes. “You can eat it why would he fix you up only to poison you? Besides I have eaten this stuff before and I’m ok. It’s not poison, so eat it already.” Seth walks toward the den, “I’m still tired so I’m going to sleep” laying down Seth yawns and goes to sleep.

Tyden ate the tuna and gave Ely the okay to eat her food as well. They both finished the tuna and Tyden looked at the den where Seth has gone. "Ely, I want you to stay here with Seth."

Tyden looked at where the human has gone and started to follow the path. Even though it was difficult to breath due to the wounds, he stayed on the human's trail. Tyden was curious about what he was doing.

Now marking on his newly drawn map, Dan drew his position from the train tracks. Looking at his compass he marks north. He turns right and walks toward the stream. Once there he takes some water samples and follows it the lake. After reaching the lake he takes some more. Noting all the tracks of the foxes as he walks, he looks for anything that would be
out of the ordinary.

The Sun was high in the sky now, and Dan was hungry. Opening his pack he pulls out a tuna sandwich and some coffee. Sitting down he starts to eat his sandwich with his eyes closed focusing on the cool breeze.

Back at the den Seth sleeps until just after, noon and wakes hearing a chirping sound. The sound had come from inside the tent.

Seth trotted over to the tent, “Chirpy, is that you in there?”
“Chirpppp!!” it sounded scared
“Well I’ll see what I can do.” Seth looked around the tent to see if there was an opening. Finding the zipper he tries to push through a small gab in it making the zipper open.
“Well, were are you?” Seth called to the grasshopper.
“Chirp.” Chirpy jumped up over the cot and onto Seth’s back.

Inside the tent there was many things that Seth recognized but being still a bit sleepy he smiles at the cot. Lying on Dan’s pillow Seth curls up and once again is sound asleep.

Ely couldn't sleep anymore so she followed Seth into the human tent. She looked around and wasn't familar with any of it but she didn't like it. Ely watched Seth go to sleep on something fluffy. She looked around the tent and even though she wished to go back out, she was safe with inside here with Seth. Careful not to injure her leg anymore, she limped into a corner of the tent behind a few things and lied down.

Tyden continued to follow the human who went to the lake; he was writing something on a peice of paper. He usually didn't see humans do that so Tyden couldn't help to be curious on what he was doing. Though when the human pulled out some food, Tyden couldn't help but go up to him sniffing the tuna.

When Dan opened his eyes he saw Tyden sniffing his sandwich. “So you liked it eh?” he breaks off a good chuck and feeds it to the fox. “You want to show me around?” Dan moved his hand in an after you jester. Dan was sure that the fox didn’t know what to make of him, but he wanted to be as friendly as he could. Besides the fox knew this area better then him. So if Tyden would be willing Dan would follow making sure to jot down everything. After eating half of another tuna sandwich and giving Tyden the other half, Dan picks up his stuff. “You lead.” He motioned the fox to lead on.

Tyden ate the tuna with the bread, it tasted good. He looked at the human who stood up and prepared to continue on again. Not sure what the human was telling him, Tyden tilted his head and stared at the human. He looked back at where the den was then back to the human. The human probably was documenting stuff about him; Tyden really didn't want the human to know about the other den, just in case.

Tyden started to walk back to the den now knowing what the human was doing but he soon realized that the human was following him. Maybe he wants me to lead him around, but he already knows of the main points in my territory; the lake, the den, the strea, the tracks. What else can I show him? Tyden still went towards his den to check on Ely.

Tyden seemed to be healing well, except for that his breath still came a bit short but it's better than what he could have expected so soon.
