Do you know that shed hair from dogs or wolves (and other animals) can be spinned?
Today there are synthetic fabric, surely more functional... but once were available only vegetal (cotton) and animal (angora, wool, silk, etc) fibers to make fabric. But in the course of history there were places where there isn't anything to spin... Sheeps were introduced by spanish after the discovery of America... let guess what native americans (especially Navajo) was using to make fabric
To this day dog hair is spinned and used... obviously only in small and hand-crafted manufacture. This yarn is defined "chiengora" (from the french words chien = dog and angora).
Dog hairs have similar features to angora: is more warm then wool and a little waterproof. And no, it doesn't smell not even if wet. And it's hypoallergenic! Who own a dog can pick up the shed and spin it
There are some interesting book about spinning dog hairs, for example: Knitting With Dog Hair (ISBN 0312152906).
Well, who has a DA account surely know Wolf of Samhain... he make pretty jewelry from wolves hairs

I'd heard of this before; its a great idea. I know some nice folks over the net who care for seven wolves at a wolf preserve in Mississippi and can testifiy as to the massive amount of fur they shed each spring!

That's awesome, and if you think about it, people can still have their precious fur coats without killing if you can get enough fur... sort of at least. As for the jewelry stuff that is really awesome *scrolls back to fix numerous spelling errors* i'd like to get something like a necklace, or bracelet.
