Hi,
New here and seeking info. I have a lone fox who comes to my porch every day and night. He lives somewhere behind my shed on the hill behind my house. I feed birds and feral cats there. I watched him sniff the bird food and the cat food. He turned up his nose at both. He is getting skinney. There is a foot of snow on the ground. What is good for foxes to eat?

Other encounter:
A few years back, I had a family of foxes. The mama would bring her babies to my back door. The larger male would always stay up on the hill, watching. They would go and re-join him and dissappear into the woods.

Many times at night in the summer, I'd let my dogs out into a fenced area with a spotlight on from a nearby door. She often peeked over the hill when she heard me outside calling the dogs back in. I only saw them for one year.

Well, I'd think that the fox might try to catch a bird or two fo those that come to your place for food. If any mice or other small rodents live nearby, the fox will hunt those also.

However, our member, Words, has a great site and much experience with urban foxes. There's lots of information on Words' site (www.permuted.org.uk) and contact information if you still have questions.
There's not a lot of traffic on this forum these days but I hope that the link will help somewhat if Words doesn't see this thread before then.

Thank you!! I will visit Words. I am not sure how urban this area is! there are hundreds of acres in my back yard--virgin woods, and no hunting tolerated-- but the area is surrounded by rural type homes.

Strange thing is: I have several rabbits who sit in my back yard close to the house, every night. I have feral cats who live under the shed. This fox has never bothered the sleeping rabbits! The cats come to the porch every morning and every night to eat.

Got a chipmunk who lives ten feet from my glass slider, in a fireplace. He suns himself everyday.

This fox don't hunt! Very Happy
