New York bans grisly animal electrocution for fur.
New York has become the first state in the nation to ban the electrocution of animals in a particularly gruesome way to harvest their fur.
The law bans the practice of anal and genital electrocution for fur-bearing animals, including mink, foxes, chinchillas and rabbits. The misdemeanor is punishable by up to a year in jail.
National animal rights advocates on Wednesday said they hope it will force similar measures in other states.

Taken from last Friday's newspaper. So this is a win against fur farms.

Not to be pessimistic or anything, but if electrocution is banned, fur farms will find different, probably more painful ways to kill the animals - that would not neccesarily be a 'victory' per se? Confused

They probably would, but electrocution is the most common because it doesn't harm the fur. Other methods are using a gun, but ruins the fur, or skinned alive which also harms the fur product.

Ah. Point taken. What about a simple injection - 'euthanization' - have they ever thought of that? I don't think that would ruin the pelt any, would it?

My main point is, this IS humans we're talking about. "Where there's a will, there's a way", as it is said. They'll find other ways to do it cleanly given enough time.

but I suppose it's good one of thier best options is outlawed, at least in that area. New York wouldn't exactly be the first place I'd look for a fur farm, though - but I suppose that's exactly why it's a good location for one, right? Razz

Lethal injection is highly expensive and like you said, we're talking about humans, they will try to maximize their profits which is why they did electrocution; it's cheap and doesn't harm them fur.

Of course they'll find another way, I expect them too. But if activists protest more and get other ways outlawed, then the goverment might get tired of hearing about these cases and ban fur farms all together, which is the ultimate goal.

electrocution is used because it makes the fur fluff out, it is sick what ideas some people have, I don't want to know what I would do with one of these monsters when I ever meet one.

at least it is a good start to ban electrocution, there is no place for fur farms in the 21st century, people are educated enough (or at least can inform themselves in less than 15 minutes) to know that the animals suffer in fur farms. it is easy enough to make perfect real looking fake fur without ever touching an animal
