Northwestern population: 2,400 wolves

Sierra Morena population: 50 wolves

Western-Central Alps
130-160 wolves

Italian peninsula population
500-800 wolves

Dinaric-Balkan population:
5,000 wolves

Carpathian population
5,000 wolves

Baltic population
3,600 wolves

Germany/Western Poland
<50 wolves

Karelian population
750 wolves

Scandinavian population
130-150 wolves

When I did my research on wovles a long time ago, I was able to see a list of wolf numbers in each country in Europe and the numbers are alarmingly low. Some below 10.

Yes. There are some countries which wolf population is only beginning to come back, which might be the reason for the low numbers of wolves in certain countries.

For example Germany got it's first wolf pack in the year 2000(if I remember correctly) after centuries of having only lonely wanderers in the country. Now days, there is 4 wolf packs in Germany and their number is growing.

As far as I know there are only two wolf packs in Germany (since 1997), there are estimated 20 wolves in Germany Neutral

edit: The English wikipedia says there are four packs, while the Dutch one says two :S
Not long ago there was an (Dutch) article about the wolves in Germany. They where also saying there are two packs :S

Seems that wikipedia's german translation is out-of-date, since German wolf Assocication informs in it's website, that there is a fourth wolf pack been established in August, short after the establishment of the third pack.
