a couple of weeks ago we had a little fox visitor in our yard, hiding behind our dog's house. we quickly got our malamute/siberian husky out of the way, so we could gently scare the fox out of our yard without incident. as the fox was leaving, it squatted, possibly marking our yard? later that night we could hear a fox 'barking' (doesn't sound like a bark) off and on throughout the night in or near our yard. (we live in the city, but have seen foxes around the neighborhood before) now this is continuing to happen every other night or so, which is a bit sleep depriving, and getting annoying
I am just curious if this is possibly the same fox and has decided it wants our yard as it's territory and is trying to scare off our dog & confiscate her food or doghouse (mind you, our dog is about 75 lbs, so a bit bigger than a fox

) or we are wondering if perhaps the one we scared out somehow ran into ill fate, and now we have a mate trying to locate their missing loved one?
If anyone can give some sort of insite into this behaviour, or if they have suggestions for letting this little fellow know they need to find another home, I would love to hear it
