Another dumb idea, this time by Nikon - a company I love.

That the photo is fake is one thing...the real point is how Nikon further makes wolves like enemy number one....wolves are victims to be protected..not savage killers....funny how killer whales, chimps, and dolphins are portrayed as docile fun loving creatures when in fact they are natural predators, just like the wolf. _________________

Not neccesarily true, TWF; The position of the ears would depend on what kind of growl it is. If the ears were flat against the back of the head, that would indicate the wolf is feeling scared, or acting in submission. Add a growl, and it would mean extreme fear, something like, "I'm scared, but if you threaten me more, I wont hold back."
Ears upright, and slightly angled to the side, as in this shot, show anger or annoyance, but no fear. Add a growl to that and you get a major warning like, "Hey, you better not forget who is in charge here, or I'll have to remind you rather painfully!" or, "Hey, you are getting on my nerves, stop that or else!"
but a growl doesnt always have to be accompnied by flattened back ears like you suggested.
As for the photo, that definitly looks like a snarl to me..yet something is wrong, although I just cant put my finger on it.
..but it is an obvious photoshop job, and a rather poor one at that... _________________ Dancing in the moonlight -
