Not sure I agree that a species as modified as the domestic dog would evolve back into "wolves" so easily though, as local environmental / ecological factors would also play a role in determining natural selection. Genes aren't everything! Hybridisation between grey wolves and dogs is well documented in Spain at least. Canid genetics is very complex and controversial area.

For the record, the original dingo is on the edge of extinction in Australia due to genetic swamping from more highly modified dog types. You may care to ask the Australian government why they are responding to this issue by poisoning dingos with Compound 1080...
