How do you mean?
There is an awful story in the Theberges' book on Algonquin about a wolf whom they had radio-collared. They were following his signal one day and found that he was close at hand. Then they saw him - he was caught in a strangling snare which had broken, wrapped itself around his hind leg, and snagged again in a bush.
They didn't have any equipment for handling wolves. All they could do was try to set him free with their bare hands. Mary distracted the wolf and John untied him. He was obviously too paralysed with fear to attack them. He ran off. Tragically a year later he died in another trap - one of many victims of the then Ontario govt's refusal to ban wolf killing in that area.
The Theberges were lucky; they just got attacked in the trapping community's magazine as "thieves" for robbing the trapper of that wolf's carcass. One guy in Alaska got jailed for a similar rescue. _________________ Visit my

How far would i go to save a wolf, i would put my own life in danger, and it doesn't matter what kind. i had a post like this on another forum. I'm not going to fly to Alaska and put my life in danger, but if i ever saw a wolf in danger i would help it even if it means i would get hurt _________________ I am spririt brothers with the wolf and fox |

Know i have to say this, i just read Eve's reply, and thaught to myself thats true you don't actually know what you will do until you are in that situation, but i still think i would put my life in danger. _________________ I am spririt brothers with the wolf and fox |

I know someone who did do that actually - stood between a fox and a relation of hers who wanted to shoot it.
Roads are different. I understand how you feel - I've witnessed too many dead foxes, including one of my own. You can read the story, if you wish, under the Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! | (it's 18th May) on my site. As I state there, I was an unwilling witness to an accident which killed a wolf in Canada in 2004, which was one the most unpleasant eye-openers to the scale of Alberta's road problem imaginable. I don't like talking about, hence I haven't directly mentioned it on here before.
Desperation can make a person do many things. Some wildlife accidents have been caused by people out of their cars (wildlife runs from the people into danger). I don't want to sound patronising because I'm sure all you guys would use common sense, if you're ever unlucky enough to find yourself in this kind of situation. But, I thought it worth repeating anyway...take care of yourselves. If you get hurt, then what's going to happen to an animal you're trying to rescue? _________________ Visit my

Some just value the life of a wolf more than others and think of all the possibilties of the situation which they are usually sure that nothing too bad would happen to themselves.
As for me, I agree with WF in that I would stand between a gun and a wolf; who would pull the trigger still after that? |

I would save the wolf. Even if it meant giving up my own life. Wolves, wildlife in general, is more important to me than anything else in the world. ^^ |
