This week I have been to “Gut Aiderbichl” an animal sanctuary in Salzburg Austria, beside lots of companion animals (altogether about 1000 animals) like horses, cattle, chicken, rabbits… there is a small group of foxes.
I found a nice guide who would like to show you his enclosure:
(text to the picture is above, and link to the larger picture is below)

Faruk: Hello my name is Faruk and I am a Marblefox, some even think I am a polar fox or a crossbreed between a grayfox and polar fox. Never mind! It is enough when you know that I am a fox and I like it here. Let me show you the fox-enclosure that I share with my two brothers, Fjell and Kibib and two red-foxes Sophia and Benni until last winter Melissa a silverfox vixen, mother of Sophia and Benni and like we born in a fur farm, shared her enclosure with us but one day in January she did not wake up.

Faruk: I can not leave my enclosure but you can come in, when you are careful so nobody sees you. Come on and follow me!

Faruk: So this is our enclosure with view in direction of the pig-den. On the right side you can see our house where we can hide when the weather gets uncomfortable or when too many of those two-legged-creatures come. In the next picture you see our enclosure as seen from the entrance, beside the well you may see my brother Fjell, on the platform is where I usually sleep during the day.

Faruk: let us see if Fjell is awake, if not we better let him sleep.

Faruk: Good Morning, sleepyhead!

Fjell: *hissing* can’t you ever let me sleep? And you know that we should not let those two-legged-creatures in our enclosure, many of them are dangerous, even for a sly fox like you.
Faruk: Aww, calm down, they won’t hurt us.

Faruk: here you see Sophia, the only vixen in our group, on the foxwalk.

Sophia: So, enough pictures, either you got some treats form e or I go back into my den.

Faruk: Thank you for your visit and I would be happy if you would ever visit me here at Gut Aiderbichl soon again. I’ll go back to sleep, Good Night.

Great pictures! Seems like they all have a great amount of space for them to roam in, and they look like they have fun there too! That is really great to see! Thanks for providing these pictures for us to see!

Many thanks, Faruk, and my compliments on a wonderful tour. You foxes sure look wonderful in those magificient fur coats. Smile Oh, and I'm sorry to hear about Melissa, my condolences.

Thanks for the photos, Kibib, I enjoyed the glimpse into the fox's enclosure halfway around the world.

Well, I don't read or speak german, but Google did a good enough job translating that I was able to get the gist of the story.

It sounds like Melissa was very famous, and helped open many eyes to the secret truth about fur farms. She was a very beautiful vixen, and will definitely be remebered. Rest in peace, Melissa. Waving

Thanks for sharing your fox photos with us. I notice that those white foxes are marble foxes. Only seen in captivity. Must have been lots of fun to see them. Smile

yeah this about the marble foxes is what I tried to tell them there, the tour guide first said they are polar foxes (it even said on the sign there) but was not averse of my theory (I had some pictures of red-, polar- and other marblefoxes with me) and she was fascinated of how much I knew about foxes, I even was asked from other guests there if I was a fox-expert, the other woman, who is responsible for the foxes meant that they are a cross between polar- and greyfox.

yeah it was fun, Faruk even let me pet him on the nose and paw, the rest of the time they were lazy, except for Sophia, the red-vixen, who walked around a lot

Polar fox? I'm not sure if I've heard of that. there doesn't seem to be a record of 'Poloar fox' in the directory I use to look up foxes. An arctic fox might sometimes be referred to as a polar fox, I think. But I definately know that those white foxes are not arctic foxes. Red foxes are small but arctic foxes are even smaller. As for cross-breeding between different speices of foxes? I never heard of that and I'm not even sure if it's possible.
It'd be interesting to go there and see what they truly are.

Looks rather peaceful for the foxes. Smile

with polarfox I meant the arcticfox "Alopex Lagopus". the marblefoxes there are bigger than Sophia (the redfox) but I think Sophia is only 1 year old, the marblefoxes are 2 years old.

I started a discussion about the origins of the marble fox:

playing hide and seek

2 noses find a lot quicker:

feeding time:

all 3 white foxes on one picture

a silver fox (at the top of the pic), the mother of the red foxes, Melissa, was a silver fox

I hope you enjoyed watching the foxes
