I kind of joined this forum to discuss wildlife issues but I guess I'm allowed to put up a photo of my dog too.
May I introduce Kelly to you. She's a Belgian shepherd and is 13 years old. She's very smart, active and organised. She does not approve of foxes, alas, although she did stand up on her hind legs when she first met a cow...and she's reasonably okay with horses and cats. She enjoys broccoli and stealing toys from anyone who will go in pursuit of her. She dislikes oranges, loud noises and my university rucksack (which she knows means that I'm off out without her).
Oh yes, and she has mixed feelings about some of my Canadian "friends". This scene did not end happily although Yip (the coyote) lived to tell the tale.

Great pictures too |
Thankyou. We have a policy of humane coexistence: Yip now lives on top of my television... _________________ Visit my

Basically the Belgian shepherd is found in four very slight variations, all named after Belgian towns. Kelly is indeed a Tervueren but her parents were Groenendaels. That is, they were jet black and she is orange. The only difference between the variations is the coat, which is why one form can give birth to another! The other two have curly coats and short coats respectively.
But yeah, if I'd wanted to show her professionally, I could have done as she's compliant with the breed standard. She's orange, therefore she is Tervueren. If that makes sense... _________________ Visit my

Yes, it's down to genetics but I guess we don't want to give everyone on here a headache by discussing genetic theory LOL
She's very active and playful, and if she doesn't get her daily walk she has ways of letting me know, like messing up my room...one of her favourite games is me hiding something (like a toy) and then being asked to search for it. _________________ Visit my

Try this for photos of all four Belgian shepherds:

I used to swallow books whole as a kid (not literally - I just spent a vast amount of my time reading!) and dog books were a part of that. But I guess you do that little bit extra research about a breed when you decide to take them into your family. However, I did check up on the spellings (Flemmish isn't my strong point!)
The two forms with unusual coats are very rare in the UK. I believe that it is just the longhaired ones which can give birth to each other.
I've been to Crufts a few times. I love watching agility and Flyball. And Kelly is lying beside me whining which suggests her patience in waiting for a walk has expired, so I'd better go out with her now... _________________ Visit my

I have a hard time swallowing books...lol.. that is what happens when you have a hard time focusing.... though if I can get passed the first few pages then watch out... I didn't read alot about dogs.. but I did read one book.. I can't remember names so don't ask what the name was..lol. but anyway it was about teaching your dog english.. so they understood it word for word.. and had talked about a time that he told one of his dogs that he needed something to sign a check.. there was 10 pencils in the table.. the dog left the room and grabed a pen from a shirt pocket on a guy in another room (surprised the guy) and broght it to his owner. his owner says thank you Mr. ___ what ever the dogs name was.. and after he was done with the pen the dog took it back to the guy were he got it from. I thought it was funny..
dogs are smart.... |

You're asking some pretty deep questions here! I studied behavioural ecology at university but that one...wow, that's hard.
My hypothesis, however, is that Yip views Kelly as an interspecific competitor for territory (ie the house) and therefore exists in direct violation of ecological theory, which states that two competitors for a resource cannot coexist if the resource is limiting to their survival. If natural selection is allowed to proceed, Kelly, being the superior competitor by virtue of her size, intellect and speed, will become dominant and Yip and his kind will go extinct.
Translation = he doesn't like her.
