On August 20, 2006 I went to a wolf sanctuary called Wolf Mountain Sanctuary. At the sanctuary you are allowed to go in with the wolves. You are allowed to pet them only if the wolves come up to you. Has anyone seen the movie called Dances with Wolves? I can't whatch that movie because a wolf is shot. The first wolf I saw was in the movie, he wasn't the one that was shot he is shown at the very end howling. The founder of the sanctuary was also in the movie, she was in two parts, one when there is a scene with buffalo, and one when there is a battle scene. The founder, Indian name Littlewolf is an Apache indian. She came up to me and said that I had the spirit of the wolf in me. I thought that was cool. The first wolf I saw was called Apache moon. I was able to pet him because he was very mellow. The reason he was mellow is because he is 19 years old. Wolves usually live up to 9 to 10 in the wild. After him we went in a cage with about five wolves. We went and sat down and right away one of the wolves came up to me. Littlewolf told me that he claimed me, then said that I was now part of his pack. He was the alpha male in his compound. This wolves name was Istas Pejuta which means medicine eyes. His eyes would change color which was really cool. Istas was my favorite wolf. Some of the other wolves in that compound came over but the others were to busy playing in thier water tub. We went around feeding the wolves. We weren't allowed in all the cages though. The sound of them eating the bone was awsome, they bit through it with no problem at all. I went into another cage and sat with some other wolves, after that we had to go home which made me very dissapointed. The picture I posted is a picture of my favorite wolf Istas Pejuta.

I wish I could have been there; it'd be great to see and pet those wolves. You are lucky. Great picture too, he looked interested in finding out what you were doing.

Well, I must have been busy the first time I read this but . ..

It's cool that a wolf accepted you into their pack, they must know that you are similar to them. And the eye changing color thing, I wish I could see something like that; that is so unique.
Wolves eat the bone? I guess they're strong enough but I didn't know that they actually ate the bone. I would like to see an example of that but I guess that'll have to wait for now.

I would love to be able to get that close to wolves, I wish I could go to thta sanctuary sometime. Where exactly is it located? What state that is. I really like the picture, I showed that to my Mammaw and Pappaw and they both said that that was a little closer than what they would want to get to a wolf, I just laughed about it. I thought that the expressions on their face was funny. Anywho, thanks for sharing that.

Oh, and Wise...what did you do to the picture?

whitefox, I do have a picture of the wolf bighting through a piece of chicken. I will try to post it tommarow. They do have really strong teeth, strong enough to bite through the thick part of a human leg bone. Eve the sanctuary is in Lucerne Valley, California, over either in or near the Mojave (SP) desert. It is located near Big Bear, and is in San Bernidino County I think. I live about 5-6 hours away. I don't live in the desert, we have a lot of hill where I live.

That'd be cool to listen to them break bone with their teeth; some example of how powerful they actually are. Great picture to even though it is a bit hard to see the bones.

That must have been one of a kind experience to have a wolf accept you into their pack. Lucky.
