Seth woke up under the apple tree and stretched. “ahhhhhh” he yawned.
Looking at the apple pieces he chews on some. Sleepily Walking to another one about to take a bite, he hears. “CHIRP!” Seth jumps up. “Oh sorry.” Chirpy finishies eating and lets Seth have the rest. Now talking to Seth, Chirpy convinces him to bring back some apples for the others. Seth just looks at him “wha?” the small bug chips some more and explains. “ Oh so you want to bring them back some of the really nice apples?” “Chirp.” Then Chirpy jumps up the tree and chews at the stem of some very nice apples.
After the apples dropped Seth picks them up by the stem so not to ruin them. Walking back to the den he asks “your sure they will want some?”
“Chirp, chirp.”
Seth gets to the den and presents the shiny apples to Ely and Tyden.
“Chirpy wants to know if he can stay here for awhile.”
“Chirp!” says the insect.
Seth looks at Tyden for an answer. “He’s the one that got the apples from up high in the tree.” |

"That sounds cool yeah I can show Chirpy the bird I caught the other day"
“Chirp?”
“Yeah it was big.” Seth then turns to Ely, "I didn’t show you it either did I?”
With the grasshopper on Seth’s back they start off to the lake.
On the way Seth starts thinking about Dan again, and how much he missed his friend.
“Tyden?” Seth waits until he has Tyden’s attention. “Do you think all humans are bad?”
A thousand thoughts go through Seth’s head does Tyden hate them all? Weren’t there some good humans out there? What would Tyden say? As they walked he listened to what Tyden said about humans. |

Seth was glad that Tyden didn’t think that all humans where bad that would mean the there was a chance for them to leave the foxes alone.
Seth now walked happily to the lake thinking that humans all as bad as the ones that he had seen here.
When they got to the beach Seth went right to the spot where the bird was buried. He begins digging it out lucky he’s a fast digger and has it out in no time. Dragging it on the ground he shows it to Ely.
“Chirp!” says his little friend. “Yeah I know its really big.” Dropping it in front of Ely he asks, “what do you think?”

“Be right with you.” Seth takes his bird and puts it back in its spot. Shoving the sand back onto the bird.
Running Seth yells, “I’m coming” The swift fox runs to catch up to the others. With his little insect friend on his back, he continues walking with Tyden and Ely.
A thousand questions got though his mind. Is it bigger than the other one? Is it under rocks or is it under a tree like the other one? What if there is another animal living in it now? Then there was the last question. What if the hunters where there?
The little fox looked up at Tyden, “Do you think that those hunters know about this den too?” Seth didn’t know what he meant by emergency den. He thought it was some kind of special den.

Seeing how the two bigger foxes where getting along so well, Seth felt like a third wheel. Soon they won’t even notice me, though I don’t think they do now. Seth shakes the thought from his head, No they just need a bit of space. I know that they would miss me if I were gone for too long. But Seth is still worried none the less.
He would have to make a den for himself soon. If Ely and Tyden were going to stay together they would need time alone. Seth didn’t know much, about how things would work out. He knew that if he needed to move out so they could have their space then he would. Seth cared too much about his friends to be such a burden.
The rest of the time Seth spent thinking on how he would dig his new den. He would make it big so the others could come in it too. First how ever he would have to ask Tyden what he thought about it.
Walking over a hill, they all reach the “special” den, and Tyden shows them around. |

Tyden showed them the den and told them that this is a backup so if they are ever needed to regroup, here is to go to. The den was under a mound of dirt and came out near another tree. It was also pretty well hidden and covered in leaves so not many other creatures will know where it is.
There was also a small pond near here, it's the closest water source. Usually had good food there too with insects and frogs. The den was built well but the problem was that there were roots to help keep it up and if an hunter were to burn it like his main den, it would collaspe so he usually stayed at his other den. He prefered the water of the stream rather than that of a pond anyways and his main caches were at the other den as well.
After taking Ely and Seth to the pond, a familar and unsettling scent was picked up. He recognized it from that last human encounter. But the smell came with that of gun powder. It was a hunter for sure, probably one of the old ones; whoever it was, it was bad news.
Without trying to alarm the other two, Tyden said, "We need to get back to my main den, quickly." Ely and Seth could hide while Tyden tried to lose the human. Tyden started to lead the way back to his den but it was aways off and the human scent was growing stronger, they needed to hurry. _________________

Dan finished getting the last of his stuff off the train. There is an ATV with some camping gear some other boxes of medical equipment, not to mention research equipment. Dan was ready for anything.
“The train will be back here in 3 days Dan. So make sure you take care till then”
“I have gone camping before by myself many times. I will be fine.”
Dan looks out to the field and beyond to the woods. “I’m sure Seth will find me before I find him.”
After leaving the train Dan rides across the open field, always looking for signs of Seth. In the field he stops to take a look at a small hole, Seth was always good at making holes. Dan thinks of the holes in the fence that Seth had made just to follow him to his office at the sanctuary. “This has got to be a Seth hole however its really old must have been made right before the dogs came after him from the train.” Dan looks at the woods after setting up camp near the edge of the woods he walks around to see if he can find some kind of sign that the swift fox is still around. Dan finds the apple tree and some tracks; he follows them to the den. Now Dan knows that there are 2 other foxes with him. That must be how he was able to survive. The other 2 must of befriended him.
With Seth running only as fast as the other 2, he didn’t want to leave them behind. Seth looked at Tyden, “you smell it too it’s a human isn’t it?”
The small insect didn’t know what was going on either but he was content to hold on tight of Seth’s back.
As they ran the smell grew stronger, then the wind changed. There was no more smell but Seth knew too well that didn’t mean the human wasn’t there. When the wind changed back the smell was stronger then ever. Seth started to run faster, keeping a few steps in front of Tyden he made sure that he didn’t go to far ahead. He wanted to make sure that the human didn’t hurt his friends. |

With a sniff Seth knew who the human at the den was, “Dan?” Seth sniffed. He looked back to Ely whom was on the ground. Walking up to her he says, “I need to get help so hold on. That other human at the den he’s a friend of mine and he can help if I can get him back here in time.” Seth looked at Ely feeling that it was his reasonably to save her.
Running at full tilt Seth finds Dan at the den and grabs onto his leg pulling him.
Dan looks down at the little fox, “what’s wrong Seth is one of your friends in trouble?”
Seth barks and runs off and runs back. Dan starts walking the other way Seth begins to worry. “Where is he going?” the swift fox runs to see what Dan is doing. The ATV starts and Seth now knows Dan is coming.
Driving the ATV though the forest Dan follows the speedy fox. Within minutes they can see the she-fox in a trap.
Dan jumps off the ATV and gets out his medical kit for animals. Now putting some rope into her mouth, he makes sure she won’t bite. How ever she’s almost out of it. Dan injects her with a needle and she relaxes. Then opening the metal trap he pulls out her leg. She is now lying down on the back of the ATV with a tourniquet on her leg. Dan begins to pull out the bullet, when she starts to move again. “Seth come.” The small fox jumps up on the makeshift table to comfort her. Once again she relaxes Dan now has the bullet out.
After putting some antibiotics and sewing up her wound Dan says, “well I think she will be just fine.”
Dan sits down on one of his foldable stools “She just needs a bit of rest.” Seth jumps up on him and happily licks his face. “Yeah I missed you too.” Dan gets up and looks for the tracks of the other fox.
Seeing the tracks he knows the fox went and lead the hunter away. It would be best if he took the other foxes back to the den. Dan rapped Ely with a blanket and held her as he drove back. The other fox would come back to the den if he could. The only thing Dan could do was to take care of this fox first, not try to chase the hunter down himself that had not worked in the past. He remembered the riffle scar on his left shoulder. |

Tyden led the hunter away, but he had no where to go this time. Seth should had brought Ely there so he couldn’t go back and his other den wouldn’t work. He needed to get away quickly, so he decided to hide in a bush. Tyden stayed in the bush and watch the hunter approach but stopped knowing that the fox was hiding. The hunter looked around and took out a hunting knife and started to cut up some bushes. He went from bush to bush cutting it to shreds until he got to the bush that Tyden was taking refuge in.
Tyden couldn’t stay there obviously, he had to come out. So Tyden bared his teeth and jumped out and bit the hunter around the leg. Tyden’s teeth broke through the cloth and punctured the skin and blood came through. Tyden yanked the leg out from under the hunter which caused him to fall and hit the ground.
Tyden jumped on the human’s chest and clawed at him but the hunter brought his knife up witched slashed Tyden’s chest and blood dripped freely. The force of the cut knocked Tyden off and to hit the ground, he however got back up and stood there with his teeth showing and growling. The hunter also got up bleeding from the ankle and chest where the claw marks were. The hunter pulled the pistol out again and aimed it at Tyden, Tyden jumped for the human’s arm and let his teeth sink in once again around the human’s hand which also bent the gun. The hunter once again hit the ground and no longer had any guns to work with, just the knife but that was lying a few feet away.
Tyden stood over the knife so if the human reached for it, he wouldn’t be able to get it. The stupid human reached for it anyway and Tyden didn’t attack the human’s reaching arm but went for the throat. Blood spilled from the hunter’s throat and soon Tyden’s mouth was full of it. With Ely still fresh in his mind, Tyden was overwhelmed with anger once again which caused him to use his teeth to slit the human’s throat.
The human flailed in pain and knew that he was loosing too much blood. Tyden back away and extended his claws and slashed the human’s check with three slashes that would be there for the rest of his life. The hunter was no longer a threat so Tyden turned, grabbed the hunting knife and ran towards the den.
Tyden ran towards the stream first though to drop the knife in but didn’t not have time to clean up he slash across his chest which still bled freely. But he needed to get to Ely, so he ran towards the den. When he arrived, he noticed another human crouching over Ely; Tyden didn’t know what the human was doing but he ran over to Ely and stood over her. Tyden growled at the human to tell him to back off.
((ooc: Tyden doesn’t know that Dan was helping her so that’s why he’s taking offence and he didn’t see Seth there, is was tunneled-vision on Dan and Ely so . . .)) _________________

Dan looked at the new fox as he growled, “its ok. I’m backing off now.” Dan walked slowly walked backwards.
As Dan was backing off, Seth turned and ran to Tyden. “Its ok this human was one of my friends from the sanctuary. His name is Dan.”
Dan listened to Seth as he made small clicks and chirps. Seth was telling him that Dan was a friend. Dan looked at Tyden and sees the cut on his chest. Dan knew that he it wouldn’t be wise to tryand fix him up. He also knew that if the hunter were still around, he would need some help or at least a punch in the face.
Jumping onto his ATV Dan rides away. He makes as much noise as he can so the hunter will know he’s there. When Dan finds the hunter he takes out his first aid, and pats the guy down to see if he has a CB radio. When Dan finds it he, asks for assistants.
Soon a helicopter shows up and takes the man to the hospital. As the man is being lifted, Dan says; “you are lucky that fox could have killed you. Most silver foxes have had bad experiences with humans. Often they will kill a hunter if attacked.”
Dan then turns to an officer on the ground, “that man or any other is not to be on this area any more.”
“What authority do you have?” says the officer.
Dan pulls out his ID, “this is protected land, and there is an on going study. A endangered species was found here. So for the time being there is to be no more hunting anywhere around this area within a 50 mile radius.”
“That is fine by me. If I may ask what species is it?”
“Vulpes Velox or swift fox.”
“I thought they where all gone.”
“Not yet. And if I can help it never.”
The officer nods his head in respect and rides his ATV away.
Dan gets on his and slowly goes back to the den, making sure to stop some distance between him and the other foxes.
