Seth just lied down. Still looking up at the sky, he fell asleep.
No more nightmares, just long resting sleep.
The sun slowly rose over the hills, Seth still sleeping but now with his front paws pointing up and his back ones stretched out. He looked a little like a cat stretched out like that. Top of his head was on the ground, in a way that the sun wouldn’t get into his eyes and his nose almost touching dirt. |

When Tyden returns, Seth is still sleeping, but now he’s in a different position. He is now lying with his stomach on the ground and his tail over his eyes. A warm wind now blows in the tall grass. Birds sing in some of the trees, finally Seth awakes.
“Good morning Tyden. Where did you get the fish, and do you mind if I hunt for one?”
He sits and waits for permission and the where about of the fish. |

The fish smell reminded him of the caned fish that Dan had given him once. Back at the sanctuary Dan had done the most work in helping the swift foxes. Seth had been his favourite fox, seeing that Seth had that hunting instinct. Many times Dan would give him tuna and salmon. “Its brain food” he once said.
“Thank you Tyden, for the fish its one of my favourite foods.”
Now after Seth had eating a little of the fish, he thought it best to tell Tyden about his former life.
“One of the humans back at the sanctuary wasn’t all that bad, he gave me fish too, he even tried to get me to learn to hunt. We would go to this big field and he would take this squeaky thing, it sounded like a mouse and he would throw it. I then would in turn run after it and pounce on it. When I brought it back, he then gave me a treat. After this he had me go out in that field with other swift foxes like me the others never where able to find any mice, but I always got one. The biggest problem that I had was around the whole field there was a fence. Dan sometimes was riding in a 4 wheeler; I always had fun jumping up onto it and scaring him. He always laughed at that. I could run fast and pounce on anything.” Seth finished eating as much of the fish as he could but it still had more then half left. “I can’t eat anymore Tyden. I am but a little fox,” he laughed.
“Are you still hungry or do you want to burry it?”

“Well the truth is I was taken from the sanctuary to go out west somewhere. Was put in a cage for weeks went from one place to another everyone saying, that I would be fine at some place out west. I just couldn’t stand being in that cage any longer. I needed to run. I wished that I could of stayed at the sanctuary, but I had to grow up and go out into the world. Besides they where going to take now the sanctuary cause of something called money, what ever that is.” Seth now takes the rest of the fish and digs a very deep hole, so deep in fact that his tail is the only thing seen as he finishes. Putting the fish in the hole, he then buries it. His new friend pacing, Seth says frightened. “Why are you pacing is there something wrong?” Seth now looking all over to see if Tyden seen anything.

Shaking off the dirt from the hole, Seth then jumps around happily. “Ok I will. What does it smell like? Is it a human?”
He knew nothing about hunters just that they were to be feared, but what about these campers what where they?
So many things Seth could hear in this new world. Smells to, many that he couldn’t make out what they might be. Sniffing the grass as they went, Seth could follow the sent, but he did not know what animal it was.
“I could run ahead and see if I can find out what this animal thing is. I’ll be back in no time.” Seth continued to walk as he waited an answer. |

After getting yelled at Seth was now very still. He had stopped jumping and now slowed as he walked.
As they walked toward the tree, Seth wondered what is shot?
Now as they both got under the tree Seth looked at Tyden in the way that a little brother looks at his big brother. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t going to go ahead if you didn’t want me to.”
Seth was now afraid of doing anything else wrong. |

Tyden sat down under the tree and stared at Seth. "Ok, I've been chasing hunters off of my territory and fought with humans and dogs for my life. And with those struggles, come knowledge, appretiation and wounds." Tyden looked at Seth as he listened. "The scent has been growing stronger as we are getting closer, it's with no doubt a human though might just be a camper. If it's just a human camping then it's alright, we will leave it at that; someone camping wouldn't mind too much about a fox running through the camp site but if its a hunter, then we'll be chased down with intentions of killing us." Tyden stopped for a moment to look at Seth's expression and continued, "I've been able to outwit a few humans, humans think animals are just stupid, air-wasting things that polluter 'their' earth. If I could get close to a human then I can get in a position to where I can defend myself and get away, also warn the human to not come back here again." Tyden sighed and kept telling Seth of the dangers, "Sometimes, hunters will bring their dogs too. Their dogs are much faster than they are and I will often find myself alone with a dog, fighting. When I fight with a dog, I don't have much time before the human will catch up so I'll do anything to get away which resulted in a few deaths." "Finally and probably most importatn, do not eat any food that looks prepared and untouched, probably a human trap. A human trap was my worse experience and I was probably the human's worst experience too for I'm sure that he'll never be hunting again." The cut on Tydens throat stung a little as the memories came back of the incident.
Tyden shook his head and sighed, then around, they were rather deep in his territory. The scent did not have any dogs with it nor the smell of gun powerder or hunting tools. Mostly food, fire and human; most likely someone camping. Tyden walked out from under the tree and started to follow the scent once again, "Just keep behind me but stay close and don't make much noise." Tyden walked average speed but kept alert. _________________

Seth now understood more about hunters, but still not that much about campers. He at least knows that they were humans.
Both of the foxes now walked ever so lightly never making a sound.
Now the smell of fire was in Seth’s nose. What was it the humans where cooking? Why did it smell so good? Seth never smelled hotdogs before.
The light of the fire was easy to be seen. There was dome like things on the ground too. The foxes must have been 100 yards away from the camp. They could hear people singing and laughing. Seth now looks at Tyden, “are those humans, campers?” |
