I dont' know what they're really called, but I want to know what people here think of those people who claim that they can talk to a dog and translate what a dog is thinking or saying. Like some woman on Animal Planet that I saw a long time ago claimed to be able to help animals by talking to them....

I've never seen the Dog Whisperer's show, but I've read and read tons about this man, Cesar Millan. He is a miracle worker, seriously. It's amazing some of the stories I've read. He's taken dogs (anything from teeny tiny Chiuahuas, to huge pit bulls and great danes) that everyone else said to put down because they were so bad it was hopeless, and turned them into perfectly balanced, well behaved dogs. It isn't that he can read thier minds per say, or commuicate with them telepathicly, or any of that mystic hocus pocus. He just has a firm grasp on the way they think, and what they really need to be balanced. And his methods are very simple, nothing complicated.

I'd highly reccomend checking out all the tips on his site, and reading his books (I'm reading one right now! Studying ), even if you don't have any canine-related problems. I learned more from The Dog Whisperer than I have from any other book or website I've ever read.

As for 'Pet Psychics', that is a matter of opinion. MY opinion is that the idea is quite overrated. Reading an animals mind isn't as hard as it sounds, when you consider the fact that they use body language extensively to communicate how they are feeling and what they are thinking at the time.

I'm reading old topics... and here I cannot be silent about Millan.

See this report of Komo 4 TV:

Shocked ...is this method based on ethological principles? Definitely is not. And it's cruel and counterproductive!

Read this broaden interview about the report on Komo 4 and methods used by Millan:

Moreover, it's very interesting this article of ScienceDaily - based on a study of the University of Pennsylvania - about dominance-based training:

If You're Aggressive, Your Dog Will Be Too, Says Veterinary Study.

I'm clashing with many people about dog training methods... too many people use "old school" methods based on punishment... they didn't read not even a single book about canine ethology and behaviour, and never observed dogs (not even them own dogs)... they only demand to solve them problems with dogs in a rush Confused

See what dog trainers who use positive methods and right social interactions can do (and what you-all can do using the same methods):
