I read this artical on the Discovery channel CA website.
Swift fox, Grasslands National Park
| Larry Bambrick, Producer, In-House Productions Discovery Channel Canada wrote: | Our subject: the swift fox
The story of the swift fox is both a tragedy and an evolving triumph. This tiny animal weighs as much as a jackrabbit — just 2.5 kilograms. Its name comes from the fox's enormous speed — close to 50 kilometers an hour. In 1978 though, the species was declared extirpated in Canada. In fact no one had seen one in the wild since 1928. Trapping programs through the 1800s and 1900s had been so successful that the animal was wiped out. |

Nice story
They died out originally because of poisons put down for wolves and coyotes, so I've read. May wolves walk in the prairie again one day too. _________________ Visit my

I was thinking the other day maybe I could go to the praires to see the programs and to learn more about the swift fox.
I don't know if or as amatter a fact when, but hopefully some day.

Very cute, some of those aren't working though .
I like the last one, the close up shot of the swift fox. _________________

Yeah that second one was taken at a reserve that was trying to save the swift fox. It looks cute laying there with his feet on the fence and his head on the rock...lol.. |

I guess it would depend if you could just anywhere. I can nap anywhere but to sleep (as in all night) I don't know. I can hardly stay asleep in my own bed. lol....... maybe I should get a tent and sleep outside.
Or even try sleeping next to a fence on a rock... |

I can sleep anywhere just as long as there are no spiders and I have at least somewhat of visibility of what is going on around me, although I wake up at the slightest noise, movement, or touch so its hard for me to sleep outside but I've done it before and it is really fun sleeping under the stars.
Anyways, swift foxes are one of my favorites, I don't know why but I've just found them to always be so beautiful and facinating. All foxes (and wolves also, but this topic is about foxes so I'll talk about them instead) in general are very....I'm not sure how to put how I feel about foxes, I guess the best word I can use is mystifying and enchanting I suppose. I think swift foxes are very pretty and I do hope that they make a good comeback in the prarie. _________________

I got to say that Swift foxes are one of my fav foxes... they can run at speeds over 60kph.. thats fast for such a little fox.
That was why I had made Seth a Swift fox. I still want to go see the Grasslands. |
