"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

Still dealing with the loss of his previous beloved K9 partner of 11 years, Officer Tim Grady is reluctantly paired with a new partner. Her name is Cat (go ahead and laugh, but trust me, you won't be for long), and she's NOT your typical K9 officer.
The prototype of a new line of GESAs (Genetically Enhanced Service Animals), Cat combines the speed, strength an senses of a canine, combined with the dexterity and learning ability of a human.
Tim is unhappy at first, feeling forced into working with a strange creature he has no idea how to deal with, or else give up his job in the K9 unit (as there are no other canines available to pair with him at the time, and won't be anytime soon). The fact that Cat's first officer was killed on the job less than a week on patrol with her, doesn't comfort him in the least.
Grady quickly learns, though, that there is a whole lot more to his intriguing new partner than meets the eye; as Cat spends more time with her officer, she develops a sweet, playful personality which softens his heart, and shows signs that she may have more human in her than her creator, Dr. Julius Deeks, would like to admit.
TSAP is a very amazing story which explores the true depths of the canine loyalty; a unique, emotional tale about the best K9 partner an officer could ever ask for.
I would highly recommend and encourage any dog-lover to read this, trust me, it's awesome. and I'm tempted to add another half a point or more, at the risk of sounding over enthusiastic. There are nine 'episodes' so far, and the story, unfortunately, is stalled at a bit of a cliffhanger, but what's there is most definitely worth reading. Do send some feedback his way, and maybe we can encourage him to write a few more episodes, hmm?
And as long as we're on the subject here, I'd love to hear any thoughts anyone has on genetically engineered canines like Cat. Granted at this point in time it's all just wishful thinking, but still?
I think Cat is amazing, and I would love to have a genetically engineered canine as a partner. I think it's a fascinating idea, the next generation of man's best friend. Of course there are some interesting implications, as the story suggests, both in the creation of such beings, and the relationships we would have with them. And how human-like would they be? How would you treat such a creature, as a human, or as a dog? _________________ Well the sun will rise in the east
