Howdy
some of you may know me from the Fox Forest Forum, there I am registered as Alopex
my name is Phil, I am 21 since a few weeks and live in Austria.
I have only seen a fox once in my life, I was driving home from work at about 11pm, then suddenly this fox (believe it was one) ran from a big acre infront of my car across the street to the other side direction forrest, my car got to a halt about 2 meters before the spot where a moment before the fox was, except for my heart rate nobody was hurt.
about my nickname/avatar: Kibib is one of 3 white foxes (Faruk and Fjell, all 3 male) who were saved from a fur farm and raised by a german dog trainer, now they live in Gut Aiderbichl in Austria Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! |

Hello Kibib. It's been about six months since someone posted anything in the new member section.
Welcome to Canidae Central. Today I did visit Fox Forest again after being absent for a long while and did see you there. I didnt' get a chance to read the new threads though. I don't think we have too many Fox Forest members over here.
Only foxes I've seen in person were bat-eared foxes at the zoo many years ago. Good thing that no one was hurt when the fox darted across the street.
Interesting story about the three marble foxes. That is the only situation that I'd support owning a fox is either from a fur farm or from a sanctuary where they cannot return to the wild. They should not reproduce though so foxes don't become domesticated.
Anyway, enjoy your stay and I hope to see you in the threads. Thanks for joining. _________________

thank you, you can't believe how glad I was that this fox-meeting did not end in a different way, I hope the next time I see a fox there will be no cars around us.
what is a marble fox? is this a subspecies, of which one? to me they look pretty much like red foxes except for the color. |

Austria? neat! I'm Canadian, but my mothers side of my family hails from Switzerland, and she occasionally tells us stories of growing up there as a kid. Welcome to the forum, kibib. I've seen a bunch of new activity in the past week or so. It's far to early to call this forum dead for good.
I've never seen a fox quite like the ones in those photos before . Pretty cool. What we call the Red Fox, in reality comes in a variety of color morphs (I think that's the term for it), some of them rare like the marble variation in the photos. Would I be correct to guess that what we call the Arctic Fox is really just another color morph of vulpes vulpes? I'm sure I knew this at some point, I've just forgotten it at the moment.
Canis Lupis, the Grey Wolf, actually can be anywhere from jet black to snow white. I guess you just can't judge a species by it's name. _________________ Well the sun will rise in the east

thank you, no the arctic/polar fox is a different species, you can tell from the shorter snout and shorter ears, the fox in the top left, beside the wolf is a polar fox (alopex lagopus), the fox in the right header pic is a red fox (vulpes vulpes) |
