On the local news that was just on tonight, reconsideration of the delistment of the wolves is in progress. While the Federal Courts decide whether to return the wolves to the Endangered List, all huntings (as far as I understand) will be halted.

Many lawsuits have been filed against the Federal Goverment because of the delistment but there wasn't a good explanation of the sudden rash change in thought. Good for wolves either way.

Thanks for the heads up, WhiteFox! I checked around and it seems that the wolf is indeed under temporary protection in the Northern Rocky Mountan reigon, until the the motion to delist them is reconsidered, and the bit lawsuit is resolved.

So yeah, until further notice the Grey Wolf is now back under the protection of the ESA. No more firing at them. Hopefully. Not that there won't be anyone atempting to shoot them, of course. But it is illegal to do so for a while longer.

Here is the article about it:

Already hit national newspapers... My local news is really slow.

This is obviously a good thing, but it's guranteed to have a lot of negative attention by all the hunters. Especially around Idaho, where the govenor, Govenor Otter, declared that he'd like to be the first to take down a trophy wolf (not using those literal words).

Hopefully the benefits to nature that the wolves provide, and the animal rights activist will put the wolves back under the protection of the federal goverment.

Well, here are some of the reactions to this ruling from various sources, including Gov. Otter, and othe Idaho officials, who are saying, rather predictably, that this injunction was clearly unneeded and is very dissapointing. Yeah. Cry me a river. Rolling Eyes

Problem is that these people say there's enough wolves that they won't become extinct and they think that that'll satisfy us. For the number of wolves in Idaho compared to the human population (which is barely over one million), contact between the two speices is very rare. Especially since Idaho has part of Yellowstone, and part of the Rocky Mountains which makes that estimated number of 1,000 really very very small.

And on a more personal note, Govenor Otter is a horrible Govenor. Idaho roads are proabably rated worst in the country, even so when our main National Freeway is unfit for unsturdy vehicles like motorbikes.

That's good news. Hopefully people will soon become more logical and not try to shoot everything that they can, legally.
