I just watched a video on Youtube, and I guess it was a... documentary on a culture/religious group/whatever in Africa or something, and every four years, they'd kill a dog by hitting it in the head with a club, VERY hard... just for a "Boy To Man" kind of thing. They'd eat the meat so they could "absorb" the strength and loyalty and fearlessness of the dog or something.

.......

...I, for one, found it completely UNACCEPTABLE for that to happen. For me, eating dogs is a terrible thing to do. They're not raised for their meat, they're raised for companionship. And yes, I know that we eat cows, pigs, chickens, and whatever.. but still; eating a dog is just.... unacceptable.

Certain cows and pigs and whatever are raised for their meat.. but dogs, I think they're supposed to be raised for companionship.. =P I don't really care what anyone says about me being ignorant by eating pigs and whatnot; I still am 100% against eating dogs, under ANY circumstances.

I'm right with you on that one, Shoji!

The only kind of dog I'd ever eat is a hot-dog Razz

i too agree, i find that unacceptible behavoir. Dogs are ment to be companions for people, to help the blind see, to give someone comfort when the need it most, not to be hit on the head w/ a club and eaten. That's just animal cruelty.. ( i find it to be that anyways ) i know people do it for religious purposes but still... i dont find it right at all Sad

Keep in mind its their culture. You can still go to Africa and find villages deep in the sierra that have never seen modern technology. They grow up as they have for teh past hundreds of years. I don't agree with anyone civilized in the modern world today..but i get kinda touchy when people forget the fact that people are different everywhere. Though personally i would attack anyone who hits a dog. Be it physically or politically...sue them..SUE THEM ALL! *INSERT MANIACAL LAUGH*

The difference between livestock and poultry from eating other types of animals, like dogs, is that livestock and poultry are on the bottom of the chain and they probably wouldn't have survived for so long in the wild. Dogs, wolves and/or foxes are on top of the food chain, benefitial to the enviroment and one of nature's greatest forces.
So when someone tries to call me a hyprocrit for protecting one animal and not all, it's not a valid arguement. I recognize that nature takes care of itself, and nature would have probably gotten rid of all wild livestock animals by now. Sure, killing things isn't right, but as human, we're ominvores and we eat protein. Killing and eating an animal that's not a good food source, and is a outstanding animal in nature, is not right. It's just not right.
